Helping children and youth achieve their full potential
United Way of Northern Arizona has two main goals for its EDUCATION initiatives: To improve school readiness and to empower youth.
Goal 1: School readiness — Children are ready to enter school and stay on track for success in later grades.
| What will change? | More kindergarten children will score high on developmental assessments. |
| More children will achieve appropriate literacy skills by the end of fourth grade. | |
| How will we create change? | Increase community knowledge and involvement in early childhood development. |
| Increase the percentage of children receiving quality child care (both center- and home-based). | |
| Increase the percentage of children with school readiness skills before entering kindergarten. | |
| Increase the percentage of children who are healthy and safe. |
Goal 2: Youth empowerment — Youth are productive, engaged members of the community.
| What will change? | More youth graduate from high school on time. |
| More youth enter the workforce, vocational skills programs, or higher education directly after high school. | |
| How will we create change? | Increase the percentage of children with school-readiness skills before entering kindergarten. |
| Increase youth participation in community service and co-curricular activities. | |
| Decrease youth substance abuse. |
