Frequently asked questions about giving to United Way of Northern Arizona

Become part of a coordinated, community-wide effort to bring about changes that matter most where you live and work.

Why should I give to UWNA?

We provide solutions. We track trends in social conditions and know where your donation is needed the most. So, when you give to us, you help provide solutions to the most critical issues in our community. You become part of a coordinated, community-wide effort to bring about changes that matter most where you live and work.

We maximize your contribution. We maximize your gift by combining your contribution with others and strategically investing in results-driven programs and initiatives that improve lives and change community conditions. Through trusted partnerships and alliances, we multiply your investment. For every $100 you invest, $126 is returned to the community.

We maintain high standards. Community volunteers carefully review each UWNA partner on an annual basis. Their oversight ensures adherence to sound fiscal practices. They also ensure that your contribution is invested in programs impact our community. Our administration costs are 18 percent — well below the standards set by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.

We make it easy to give. When you give through your workplace campaign, your contribution can be spread out over a year through payroll deduction.

How do I know UWNA is financially accountable?

Visit our Accountability page to learn about our oversight process and to download documents such as our annual report, financial statement, and tax form 990.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

Yes — if you itemize your deductions. In addition, you may qualify for the Working Poor Tax Credit if you designate a portion of your gift to the Working Poor Fund. You may receive a credit of up to a $200 (for single taxpayer) or $400 (for married, filing jointly) on your Arizona state taxes.

How do you decide who will get my donation?

A group of dedicated volunteers carefully monitors community needs, meets with local agencies, reviews each partner’s request for funding, and decides where to invest your contribution — based on which programs will improve the most lives.
